The first day of our social media marketing class Mr. Conte, our professor, said that there would not be a textbook because as soon as you get the textbook it would be out of date. He couldn't have been any more correct because on a daily basis the social media platforms are changing and adding new bells and whistles or taking them away. It is very important as someone that owns your own business or is in marketing to know what these changes are and how the effect your business. Some of the trends that are occurring in 2016 that you should be aware of are that organic posts are being seen less but they are being targeted toward your key audience. The good news for paid advertisers is that their money will be spent wisely in the tough market where customers have so much to choose from. Another trend that is coming is the combination of social media with e-commerce such as Pinterest and their “buy” button. Real-time streaming has also become a big part of most social media platforms so that you can participate as it is being done live. Lastly, it looks like virtual reality is trying to push its way into our everyday lives and if it succeeds it could change many things as far as communicating via social media.
